I’m guessing this is the chat? If so, hello on a very early morning. 2nd week of no-sleep saturday, hopefully it isn’t a curse (did horrible last week) =P

by Mehicoradio on Oct 22, 2011 4:35 AM PDT reply actions

laid down and couldn’t get to bed. Being a night owl and having 4am starts doesn’t help (plus after the 7am games the damn college football starts, so no time to sneak in a quick nap)

by Mehicoradio on Oct 22, 2011 4:37 AM PDT up reply actions

I know how you feel – I’m not a great sleeper either. Really the only way that the blog gets taken care of.

by Neal Thurman on Oct 22, 2011 4:38 AM PDT up reply actions

Good morning, afternoon, and evening

I’m wondering how many people will show up for Wolves vs. Swansea

by Neal Thurman on Oct 22, 2011 4:35 AM PDT reply actions

Chat

I guess this format is staying so might as well get used to it. Decided to be a bit different and picked Hammill and Graham. So I have some players to cheer in the early game.

by Ming W on Oct 22, 2011 4:35 AM PDT reply actions

I really like Graham. He seems like he should be a good one both today and over time – it would help if Swansea had some better attacking players to help him out.

by Neal Thurman on Oct 22, 2011 4:36 AM PDT up reply actions

Hammill is starting ahead of Hunt. So that is the first bit of good news.

by Ming W on Oct 22, 2011 4:40 AM PDT up reply actions

Bringing in ...

Silva and Aguero
VDV and Walker
Brown and Rangel

To add to

DG
Boy
Ben,
Suarez, K2

……….. at the moment

Morning Neal et al

Up at 6:30 AM for Wolves vs. Swansea. This really could be classified a sickness.
(The chatter formerly known as “Bradley”.)

I’m definitely questioning a few of my life choices being up this early for this match

by Neal Thurman on Oct 22, 2011 4:41 AM PDT up reply actions

First time watching wolves and Swansea this season.

by Ming W on Oct 22, 2011 4:43 AM PDT up reply actions

totally agree, hopefully the game is a good one though.

At least ESPN should love those of us up watching right? =P

Anybody else thinking Torres for next week. Arsenal looks like a good match up

by CaptAwesome on Oct 22, 2011 4:43 AM PDT reply actions

Torres is dead.

If I fail my classes this semester, I am taking Yahoo to court.

by FlyingHamster on Oct 22, 2011 4:44 AM PDT up reply actions

Torres is dead to me. He’s gotten me negative points on several occasions, which is really sad for a striker.

by SonicRover on Oct 22, 2011 4:44 AM PDT up reply actions

Howdy, everyone! Here is what I have:

DDG
Riise, Enrique, Santos
Gerrard, Cabaye, Modric, Bannan
Suarez, Sturridge, Adebayor

Wolves 1:1 Swans Doyle and Sinclair to score.

If I fail my classes this semester, I am taking Yahoo to court.

by FlyingHamster on Oct 22, 2011 4:43 AM PDT reply actions

Predicting or rather hoping for. 3-3 thriller.

by Ming W on Oct 22, 2011 4:45 AM PDT reply actions

immediately shot on goal. could be a good game!

by heylookitsjacob on Oct 22, 2011 4:46 AM PDT up reply actions

Hopefully we’ll avoid the early match curse this week.

by SonicRover on Oct 22, 2011 4:47 AM PDT up reply actions

we can only hope – waking up early, knowing we’d be watching un-fancied teams and having it turn out as badly as Man United vs. Liverpool last weekend would be a very bad thing.

by Neal Thurman on Oct 22, 2011 4:48 AM PDT up reply actions

Who had Karl Henry with the first meaningful attempt on goal today? If you say you did, you’re a liar.

by Neal Thurman on Oct 22, 2011 4:46 AM PDT reply actions

I couldn’t of told you who Karl Henry was 5 minutes ago

by Mehicoradio on Oct 22, 2011 4:47 AM PDT up reply actions

nice shot by Henry there

Does anyone else here have any wolves or Swansea players on their team besides me?

by Ming W on Oct 22, 2011 4:48 AM PDT up reply actions

I have O’Hara, and I might have a Swan on FPL but not sure

by Mehicoradio on Oct 22, 2011 4:49 AM PDT up reply actions

I have Sinclair in the official game, also N Taylor on the other end of the bench.

If I fail my classes this semester, I am taking Yahoo to court.

I know Mo has two or three Wolves players (I forget which) – he was really high on their chances to do well.

is there a permalink on NMA for the Mo rules?

by mikebirty on Oct 22, 2011 4:49 AM PDT up reply actions

I don’t know what the status of the archives is – they were having trouble bringing them over when we got started.

by Neal Thurman on Oct 22, 2011 4:50 AM PDT up reply actions

No. I was considering a Wolves DF but couldn’t squeeze one in.

i fancied sturridge and don’t have any chelsea players in the end. got worried about rotation

by mikebirty on Oct 22, 2011 4:53 AM PDT up reply actions

sturridge wont be rotated since he was rested midweek

by CaptAwesome on Oct 22, 2011 4:54 AM PDT up reply actions

I think I’ve been getting burned by rotation even more this season (primarily by any team located in Manchester).

by SonicRover on Oct 22, 2011 4:55 AM PDT up reply actions

Graham and Hammill

Just realized I have both number 10 s on my team.

by Ming W on Oct 22, 2011 4:54 AM PDT reply actions

My bad. Hammill is 19.

by Ming W on Oct 22, 2011 5:14 AM PDT up reply actions

So Neal, what’s your opinions on the Opta data from EPLIndex.com?

If I fail my classes this semester, I am taking Yahoo to court.

by FlyingHamster on Oct 22, 2011 4:55 AM PDT reply actions

it is better than the alternatives thus far but their online tools to manipulate the data are pretty rotten. Still an improvement on what I could get before so I’m a big fan but could be bigger.

by Neal Thurman on Oct 22, 2011 4:57 AM PDT up reply actions

I was thinking of subscribing to it, but I am not sure which package I should subscribe to…

If I fail my classes this semester, I am taking Yahoo to court.

by FlyingHamster on Oct 22, 2011 4:59 AM PDT up reply actions

I just bought the full package for 40 pounds or whatever it was – I can write it off on my taxes because of the blogging and it wasn’t THAT much more expensive than the other packages.

by Neal Thurman on Oct 22, 2011 5:01 AM PDT up reply actions

This has been entertaining so far

by Neal Thurman on Oct 22, 2011 4:55 AM PDT reply actions

I really like how Swansea plays. This year’s blackpool.

by heylookitsjacob on Oct 22, 2011 4:56 AM PDT up reply actions

Except they can’t score

by Neal Thurman on Oct 22, 2011 4:57 AM PDT up reply actions

So far the Swans need the Wolves’ goal shifted slightly to the right.

by SonicRover on Oct 22, 2011 4:58 AM PDT up reply actions

They will this game.

by Ming W on Oct 22, 2011 4:58 AM PDT up reply actions

They’ve scored more goals this season than stoke, QPR, Wolves, and Wigan (by one).

by heylookitsjacob on Oct 22, 2011 5:00 AM PDT up reply actions

Was comparing to Blackpool

Last season Blackpool played a fun style, scored a ton, and conceded a ton. Swansea are doing the passing without the goals on both ends.

by Neal Thurman on Oct 22, 2011 5:02 AM PDT up reply actions

Gotcha. Sinclair & Dyer look like they could get on decent form in this league, especially against the bottom half.

by heylookitsjacob on Oct 22, 2011 5:03 AM PDT up reply actions

I’m not sure who to root for. I have a soft spot for Mick and Co., but I also like having a Welsh team in the league (easy for me to say — I don’t have to travel between there and Newcastle).

by SonicRover on Oct 22, 2011 5:01 AM PDT reply actions

I’d like to see both stay. Even more so if Swansea can get a more productive Number 10 to light up their attack.

by Neal Thurman on Oct 22, 2011 5:03 AM PDT up reply actions

The Welsh factor wins out for me, I’d like to see Wolves and Swansea stay up though (Not sure what it is about Wolves, but just like something about them)

by Mehicoradio on Oct 22, 2011 5:04 AM PDT up reply actions

great 2 minutes for wolves!

by heylookitsjacob on Oct 22, 2011 5:05 AM PDT reply actions

Like Graham, I’m pretty sure Vorm is staying up regardless of how Swansea ends up the season

by Neal Thurman on Oct 22, 2011 5:06 AM PDT reply actions

Good morning everyone

Let’s see how this new platform is shaping up

by _G-man_ on Oct 22, 2011 5:07 AM PDT reply actions

I like it...

by Neal Thurman on Oct 22, 2011 5:09 AM PDT up reply actions

first time for me as well, found hitting Z helps as it goes through each new comment (basically)

by Mehicoradio on Oct 22, 2011 5:15 AM PDT up reply actions

I should have stuck with him up front….switched him out for Aguero since I had the cheddar.
Aguero will probably get me negative points today with my crappy luck this year.

by fish8 on Oct 22, 2011 5:09 AM PDT up reply actions

And there’s the goal from Graham

by Neal Thurman on Oct 22, 2011 5:08 AM PDT reply actions

Horrible...

Sure glad they base the early matchups on ESPN on how good the teams are…….wait a second……..

by fish8 on Oct 22, 2011 5:08 AM PDT reply actions

This is already better than United vs. Liverpool last weekend as far as entertainment goes – the names were bigger last weekend but the match was dull.

Nice

Shoddy defending there from Wolves

My-lineup

Seep to be the only one without VDV or Suarez…

DDG
Boyata, JAR, Santos
Silva, Gerrard, Cabaye, O’Hara
Kun, Rooney, Mata

by _G-man_ on Oct 22, 2011 5:13 AM PDT reply actions

I dropped Rooney for Suarez, which I may live to regret.

by SonicRover on Oct 22, 2011 5:14 AM PDT up reply actions

I think Suarez is going to have an amazing game. You heard it here first folks.

by heylookitsjacob on Oct 22, 2011 5:15 AM PDT up reply actions

hey neal, did you ever have a post about who you think are going to drop this season? If not, what’s your thoughts?

by heylookitsjacob on Oct 22, 2011 5:17 AM PDT up reply actions

How bad was last week for folks?

Had to be a horrible one for most managers. I did my annual “don’t save a full team” gaffe, took a fat 0, and only dropped 2,400 spots. I was expecting much much worse.

by _G-man_ on Oct 22, 2011 5:17 AM PDT reply actions

it was pretty rotten for me (as the last 3 weeks have been)

by Neal Thurman on Oct 22, 2011 5:17 AM PDT up reply actions

I calculated I would have picked up about 38 points. Not great. Still, it was unpleasant to drop from top 600 to joust outside top 3,000…

by _G-man_ on Oct 22, 2011 5:21 AM PDT up reply actions

wow, I saved a team an lost almost as many spots =o

by Mehicoradio on Oct 22, 2011 5:18 AM PDT up reply actions

I scored like 27 points last week and actually CLIMBED a few hundred spots in the Tottenham group…go figure.

by fish8 on Oct 22, 2011 5:19 AM PDT up reply actions

wow – ballsy to call that outside of the box

Early Season Woes

The big problem with staying up is that they’re losing out on points to newly promoted teams at Molineux. First QPR and now (presumably) Swansea. Can’t give up the easy points if you’re going to stay up

Sturridge only sensible choice

by _G-man_ on Oct 22, 2011 5:38 AM PDT up reply actions

Don’t load up on Chelsea. Load up on Man City. Buy ht whole team. At the rate wolves is conceding goals it could be ten nil.

by Ming W on Oct 22, 2011 5:40 AM PDT up reply actions

Agree. I meant, if one really wanted someone from Chelsea, Sturridge would be the only sensible choice.

by _G-man_ on Oct 22, 2011 5:42 AM PDT up reply actions

Wolves play man city in league cup too

Would be interesting to see what team Mancini puts out for the two comps. They have Villarreal 4 days later so he will likely be rotating his squad. Hmmm. What do you guys think?

by Ming W on Oct 22, 2011 5:44 AM PDT up reply actions

Tough one, since the Prem game is before the Cup game. I’d say depends on how the Citeh do in the Derby. If they loose, I’m thinking Mancini fields a very strong squad to climb back into 1st.

by _G-man_ on Oct 22, 2011 5:48 AM PDT up reply actions

Good thoughts, Neal. I think bos will go before I’m done. Starting to develop irrational faith in Ramsey, tho. Always dangerous.

by Mount Prospect Wednesday on Oct 22, 2011 5:39 AM PDT reply actions

definitely irrational

Ramsey is very dependent on scoring for his fantasy points, he doesn’t get many phantom points. Against Chelsea that seems like a tough bet to be making.

Solid observation

Two thoughts: 1) they’re on the road; 2) it depends on what you think of Swansea – if you think the Swans are relegation fodder then BOL @ SWN should be tight. If you think SWN are solid mid-table then getting BOL at home would represent a solid chance for a win and maybe a clean sheet

I keep insisting that only players on your fantasy squad should be allowed to score against the team you support, but they won’t listen to me.

by SonicRover on Oct 22, 2011 10:21 AM PDT up reply actions

i told them the same thing.. but they told me to support other team!

by 2OLEgend on Oct 22, 2011 10:24 AM PDT up reply actions

Ouch. My sympathies. Sounds like my week 6.

by SonicRover on Oct 22, 2011 10:40 AM PDT up reply actions

Suarez seems to be going for some kind of shot off target record. And to think I dropped Rooney for him.

by SonicRover on Oct 22, 2011 10:42 AM PDT up reply actions

i will never drop suarez if he gets injured etc.
he gets 9 points so far and i have @13.60

by kareem_cabbar on Oct 22, 2011 10:45 AM PDT up reply actions

I can’t complain too much. Got a total of 16 so far of for Brown, Boyata and Ben Arfa (A combined investment of 7.58)

SG

hows gerrard been today? havent seen much of him

by AMunited on Oct 22, 2011 11:08 AM PDT reply actions

1 SOT. To be fair Gerrard had some passes that could’ve been assists, but Suarez has also had 5 shots off target.

by SonicRover on Oct 22, 2011 11:10 AM PDT up reply actions

anybody fancy Noritch to snach and grab this one?

by partly sunny on Oct 22, 2011 11:16 AM PDT reply actions

A draw is a great result for Norwich and a poor one for Liverpool so it could a las minute winner could be on the cards.

by TonyYeboah on Oct 22, 2011 11:18 AM PDT up reply actions

Another Gerrard cross that should’ve been an assist.

by SonicRover on Oct 22, 2011 11:23 AM PDT reply actions

damn it suarez!!! oh well….got points

by asm on Oct 22, 2011 11:24 AM PDT reply actions

how did he saved that?!

by partly sunny on Oct 22, 2011 11:24 AM PDT reply actions

wow

Quite the finish. Canaries thoroughly earned that point.

Indeed. They looked like they had a 2nd goal in them too.

by SonicRover on Oct 22, 2011 11:27 AM PDT up reply actions

8 SVs for John Ruddy too, for that matter.

by SonicRover on Oct 22, 2011 11:29 AM PDT up reply actions

it was entertaning game liverpool deserved to win but…..
anyway i think suarez had 25pts+ gerrard also 10 pts enrique 5 pts :)

by kareem_cabbar on Oct 22, 2011 11:27 AM PDT reply actions

25 points for Suarez with no goals ??? how do you come to that total. I’d have given him 10-14.

by TonyYeboah on Oct 22, 2011 11:34 AM PDT up reply actions

ESPNSoccernet has Suarez at 6 SOTs, which is 18 points all by itself.

by SonicRover on Oct 22, 2011 11:36 AM PDT up reply actions

Assuming of course those numbers hold up. Opta doesn’t count SOTs the same way ESPN does.

by SonicRover on Oct 22, 2011 11:40 AM PDT up reply actions

Well I hope I stand corrected cos I have him and 15+ would be great.

by TonyYeboah on Oct 22, 2011 11:50 AM PDT up reply actions

Massive apology

I do stand corrected :) kareem_cabbar I should never have doubted you :)

Dr. M where are you watching? I live on the east coast so it will start at 4AM. Can’t find a free on line source and the bars will be closed. Really bummed as I want to see the AB’s kick France’s @$$

well

Starts at 0400 on East Coast of USA. try some of the streaming free sites- just look for general sports then focus on their choices. Better than searching specifically for the game— too many false leads. Otherwise, ridiculously expensive on PPV at $35, I’ll bet there will be rugby bars open in the larger cities- DC for example.

Looking forward to the Manchester Derby. Should be a great spectacle.

Also noticed that the Everton vs Man Utd and Chelsea vs Arsenal game next week kicks off at 12:00 and 12:45 respectively so we should have some really good team news just before deadline.

here’s hoping arsenal struggle for 60 mins, forcing Wenger to bring RVP who then scores a 30 minute hat-trick :)

thinking about it... but not sure I have space

I’d have to drop RVP to barn door Balotelli

I’ve already got Suarez at discount and want to bring Aguero back in. Not sure whether to bring Balotelli too…
