I have been overwhelmed so far this year with my teams position not only in my groups but in the overall ranking. My knowledge is limited to say the least so what is driving my early success? In reality it appears to be more circumstances then good play on my part. I will explain.
Looking at my team throughout the past weeks (like many) I have been fortunate to have brought in players at several positions who continue to return great value and are for the most part..cheep.
De Gea @5.65, W, Brown @3.82 Vermaelen @6.24 Filler defenders like Heitinga @4.33. Most have Silva @8.82 and we can now add Adebayor @9.23 or less along with Aguero who some have at less then 7!
Add them all up and we are looking at around 7/11 players who are returning good/great value nearly every week and are "cheep".That leaves only 4 players each week where the actual BIG decision comes into play and I am usually left with more then 1/2 my budget to work with to fill 4 positions.
In the past it seemed like you had to spend 7-10 on a defender just to get a fair return and goal keepers were switched out nearly every week, and there were many teams who would take the intentional zero at that position as a "stand out" cheep keeper was not available.
Has there ever been a time when so many "cheep" players were producing these type of returns every week? Last year there only seemed to be 1-3 players that were picked up on a budget and held throughout most of the season.
I believe yes, some good choices were made on my part but....It appears to be more Great circumstances so far this season that is driving my early success. We will surely know more when poor production or injuries force me to make my weekly decisions on 8 or more players as opposed to 4!
