Its getting pretty busy here at the fantasy-managers HQ. I, for one, am pretty set on DGs, but the season is long and different strategies are required...if you want to be at the top of this game/war. Now that the kick off is just around the corner, I wanted to share my thoughts on some players I don't hear/see many (if any) talking about. Players that I think will/might have a big season. These are players flying well under the radar, for various reasons.
Off to the list then...
Luis Suarez - I know it IS an obvious name, but so many managers have dismissed (almost) entirely el Pistolero, and there is a reason for that nickname. Suarez set the league on fire when he first joined Liverpool, for all the right reasons, and he proved to be a fantasy gold. Everything kinda changed last season, when he kept making headlines almost every week. But this time, for all the wrong reasons. I'm not going to go into much detail on his last season (b/c I'm pretty sure everyone, more or less, knows it), but I do want to remind fantasy managers that even with a lackluster season he still was well above average. He was just trying too hard, especially with the absence of Gerrard/Lucas AND presence of Carroll. But with (fingers crossed) healthy Gerrard/Lucas and Joe Allen doing most of the horsework I expect his luck to change this year. And I am pretty confident he is in for his best Liverpool season yet. Fasten your belts folks.Jason Puncheon - I know that all the hype of Southampton potential is around Lambert and Llallana, and managers have numbers to back that up. I really like Puncheon from his Blackpool days. He was well overshadowed by Charlie Adams amazing performances, but he still managed to show his (at least fantasy) potential. He is fast, knows how to go behind defenders and loves to shoot from distance. The fact that he is the most in-form man for Southampton in the preseason games only makes things easier for us managers.
Giroud - I don't have any REAL ground to back this one up, but to all managers planning to take a punt on Podolski/Giroud (RvP is leaving, or course)...my money is on Giroud to outscore, and outperform for that matter, Podolski. Purely a personal opinion on this one :)
N'Zogbia - With Lambert managing N'Somnia, I expect him to have a Wigan-like season. And thats a pretty darn good season. Expect a LOT of assists.
Alex Pierce - Just a funny preseason feeling. I've read comments from Reading fans and other Championship followers and they all say Pierce is a shot-blocking magnet. And thats +2 pts per each of those. In my book he is last season's Ashley Williams.
Anyway, I'm sure I've left out of the list a lot of other raw fantasy jewels, but I just thought I'd share some from my book with you...!!! Hope things work out for your, and my, sake :)
Cheers,
Fidan
