It's time again for my analysis of the bargains and busts for Week 6. For those of you just joining us, bargains are those players who returned the most, while busts are those who sucked your money down a hole. Based upon an excellent suggestion earlier, I calculate these lists taking points for the week and subtracting cost. [Note: I do not include players who did not play, so while having certain ManU defenders in your lineup might have been a bust, they will not appear here.]
This week, however, I am doing two sections. The looking back section will evaluate the week that was. This is all nice and good, but it may not be as helpful moving forward. In the second section, I look at players who, at their current cost, might be nice to consider given their production.
So, without further ado, on to the numbers!
Looking Backward Bargains
Here are this week's bargains. No surprise to see Lukaku at the top fo the list, or other names such as Barkley and Ramsey. There are some surprises here, however, and kudos to all (anyone?) who took a flier on McGregor against the woeful WHU away attack. He scored over twice what Mignolet did at almost one third the cost.
|R. Lukaku||F||EVE||EVE v NEW||12.23||6.97||28||15.77||1|
|A. McGregor||G||HUL||HUL v WHU||5.62||1.23||20||14.38||2|

Looking Backward Busts
There are plenty of big names on this week's cost-you-a-lot-for-little-returns group, although anyone foolish enough to go with Joe Hart was really burned. Although Baines did not go negative, getting just 3 points from a £23.46 mil retail layout (that is almost 1/6 of your budget) was just as problematic.
|J. Hart||G||MAC||AST v MAC||14.24||12.25||-9||-23.24||271|
|L. Baines||D||EVE||EVE v NEW||23.46||13.55||3||-20.46||270|
|R. van Persie||F||MAN||MAN v WBA||24.05||40.11||4||-20.05||269|
|D. Berbatov||F||FUL||FUL v CAR||12.02||2.07||-6||-18.02||268|
|D. De Gea||G||MAN||MAN v WBA||13.32||8.91||-4||-17.32||267|
|B. Ivanovic||D||CHE||TOT v CHE||14.09||19.35||-3||-17.09||266|
|M. Arteta||M||ARS||SWC v ARS||11.53||1.66||-3||-14.53||265|
|M. Vorm||G||SWC||SWC v ARS||9.97||1.91||-4||-13.97||264|
|L. Ridgewell||D||WBA||MAN v WBA||12.71||1.26||-1||-13.71||263|
|W. Reid||D||WHU||HUL v WHU||12.52||1.61||-1||-13.52||262|
Looking Forward Bargains
I debated many ways to present this. The problem is that many of the names that might appear on the list either had one good week and are still just cheap (F. Campbell), only played one or two weeks so look good on average (Stekelenburg), or are just very cheap (Livermore). So, instead, I culled the lists for names you might not have thought of much.
On a total points per current cost basis, these names popped out. Remember that these are not based upon matchups or any other analysis than their current total points and current cost.
On an average points-cost basis, these might be some interesting differentials for your team. Not as much here, but for what it is worth, here they are. I thought I read Hernandez may be on his way back, so perhaps someone to keep an eye on.
Okay, that is all for this week. I hope you find this interesting at least, and perhaps even helpful.
