Looking for something different?

Our man up above seems to be many peoples captain this coming week. Unless you are Messi or Ronaldo hat tricks and braces don't often come in back to back home games. Yet Liverpool host one of the worst away sides ever in the premier league. However a word of caution. Liverpool changed shape half time and if they seem likely to return to a back four somebody has to fill the wide roles in the front three. Sturridge seems least comfortable wide therefore suarez may find himself playing to the left of his strike partner. It may not matter but logic suggests the chances to score may slightly decrease for our current runner up choice to Ramsey as player of the season. So captain?

Second as I commented in Kellz Monday wrap up, this season the gaps in the game are tight. I sit in 456 place and I'm 19 points ahead of Ken who is in 857 place. That's 401 teams within 19pts. Is this because we all have teams containing all the easy picks? Scores of 130+ now seem the required level to match 100+ from previous seasons and a 150 plus needed for a great week. There will be weeks where 100pts is big but it will be rare. What it does mean is every point really will count. Finding the clever picks, using the bench (in particular in the Christmas period where a 100 week was huge with all the rotation) and finding the picks that get you those extra phantom points will be crucial.

So looking ahead can we find a few ideas outside Suarez, Kun, Lukaku,Benteke, RVP and Rooney etc. Do we even need to considering the budget available (anybody getting tired of the 150?)

Well here I will try and find a few picks not on your short list that you may like to consider if playing catch up.

In goal

Cech. A Jose Chelsea should beat WBA to zero but isn't a side near the original side he built at this stage. However they are due a clean sheet and u would expect a home win to go with that. Cech's price makes him interesting. Most just don't like spending their money on the keeper. At 13.98 and with cheaper/better value picks above many wont consider him.

At the back

All in saints. Now there is a settled defence and the best one in the league. All similar price all with a great cs shout. Lovren is the popular pick and the points leader of the four. A massive threat from set pieces he is the defender in every team this week. Picking one is nothing. The question is, would this be the week to go all in for 3/4 of the saints back line? Ask the audience, should you gamble?

Any Norwich defender. Now here me out. Yes walloped for 7 last week. But the normal reaction from such a game is to spend the whole weeks training "working" on correcting these errors and often results in ummm parking the bus. West Ham have found a novel approach, line up with Barca's formation but pick a selection of players who could be considered last season stoke like. Sorry Wham fans but where is the flair we want from your side. Big Sam is a good Manager who does get the maximum out of players but boy is it dull. Anyhow the Hammers 00154 formation (064 is being kind) should aid in Norwich being given the best chance to stop the rot. Can you hear Shearer on Match of the day quoting its all about the result after last week? Oh and Turner/Bassong do provide a couple of a goals a season.

Middle for diddle

James Ward Prowse -You know whenever I watch him I think If England ever win a major in the next 15 years shouldn't the man lifting the cup be called something like James Ward Prowse? Maybe its just me but he is all old school english posh in name. Anyhow my Saint mate says every game is a choice between JWP and Steve Davies. When he plays JWP steels the kicks from Lallana and is a phantom king. Benched midweek, be careful with the Lallana pick and consider the JWP pick. Repeat after me. God save our gracious queen sniff sniff.

Lampard - For old times. Hazard is a pen magnet, Chelsea are due one, Lampard is a pick here. Rested midweek and after defeat last week Jose will want his reliable players. A routine game like WBA at home needs a Lampard.

Barkley - if only i was sure he will start. Its palace and he likes to shoot. Hmmm will he start.

Up the top

Ok ok ok Kun, Suarez and one other for all but how about

Negredo - the brave out there may decide to drop Kun but only the very brave. He can't keep scoring can he? After hitting a trick midweek Negredo has to start right? Screams Value hmmmm am I brave?

Soldado - We haven't seen the best of him yet. This guy is no Drogba holding the line bringing everyone into play and a one man team. He doesn't suit the one up top spurs play but he is a fantastic finisher and a multi goal game in waiting. I refuse to believe Newcastle can keep back to back clean sheets and at some point this guy will click. Maybe Sunday and the price is right.

Snodgrass - A further point touched on the blog over last weekend was the number of players not correctly classified. Here is maybe the best example. Playing right midfield wouldn't we all consider him each week? A phantom machine and we need those phantoms right playing against a side that will concede kicks. Damm it yahoo make him a middie.

So there you are, a few picks a little different. Not saying they will make the team but they just make me think.
