Unlike many Premier League players who are either just metaphorically "on the beach" by this point in the season, or who have taken it upon themselves to be dismissed from class - Craig Gardner and Stepane Sessegnon to pick two from just one club - Steven Gerrard will miss Liverpool's final two matches to have shoulder surgery.
Liverpool have confirmed Steven Gerrard will undergo surgery on a recurrent shoulder problem this week.
The captain's injury has progressively worsened in recent weeks and requires an operation to cure it.
Gerrard will now miss the final two games of 2012-13, but he is expected to be fit for the start of pre-season training this summer.
Gerrard will join teammate Luis Suarez on the sidelines. In their absence, the likes of Jordan Henderson or Jonjo Shelvey (who would be a fantasy bargain and scored a great goal in Liverpool's U21 clash with Manchester United yesterday) may be asked to step up and fill the void at Fulham and then home to Queens Park Rangers.
