Usually a score of 83 points would be average at best, but it seems a pretty decent total for Week 8 as it was enough to move me from outside the Top 10,000 to 3,400th overall.
My decision to drop Sergio Aguero and Emmanuel Adebayor has paid off for now as a new look strike-force of Robin Van Persie, Daniel Sturridge and Mario Balotelli combined for 4 goals and 53 points. There were also okay contributions from Frank Lampard & David De Gea, Boyata returned his cost, but David Silva, Kieran Gibbs, Cabaye, Jose Bosingwa & Shaun Wright-Phillips scored next to nothing between them.
One stupid mistake has left me annoyed - I dropped Van Persie on Saturday to barndoor a few players with a plan to bring him back in at 22ish if he performed well against Sunderland. Unfortunately I forgot to make that switch and now he's over 25, but I may need to take that hit as he has another decent fixture in Week 9 - at home to Stoke - and is in fantastic form.
My very early Week 9 team currently looks like this:
De Gea
Boyata Brown Jenkinson
Wright-Phillips Gerrard Bannan Silva
Sturridge Suarez Van Persie
I love the strikers again but it's left the rest of my team a bit weak, so I may need to downgrade Luis Suarez to Adebayor which would allow me to spend more on my defence. I like the Barry Bannan pick at home to West Brom (provided he's set to return after being benched at Manchester City), but I'm running out of patience with Wright-Phillips who hasn't been performing and has a really tough fixture against Chelsea. I may look to move him on if I can find/afford a suitable replacement.
As for the Blog Cup, I will wait a couple of days before calculating the results as in the past Yahoo has been known to make adjustments to the points, which would mean re-calculating everything. Judging by the amount of places I moved up I have to assume 83 will be plenty to progress to Round 3 and I think we may find the cut-off to be one of the lowest ever; 60 points, possibly lower.
How did you get on? Are you confident of making it through?
Cheers, Nik (AM)
