This has certainly been a tournament of pleasant surprises if you're a neutral, or if you just enjoy a good storyline. The Costa Rican team will probably garner most of the positive attention after their two impressive victories over Uruguay and Italy, but there has also been the complete turnaround in the French camp, the incredible defensive displays from Mexico, and of course the United States finally getting a result over Ghana.
Who knows what other storylines we can look forward to as the tournament progresses. Can the Americans get a result against Portugal and go through to the next round irrespective of their third match against Germany? Can Iran frustrate Argentina? Can the players on my fantasy team start delivering good points?
While that last point is a bit of a joke, I've not had the best time of things so far with my fantasy players and will be hoping for better things to come over the weekend, as yet again I've got the majority of my lineup in action in the later days of this second round. I've currently got 34 points from four players, with the following players still left with a chance to make an impact:
Marcos Rojo, Toby Alderweireld, Pejman Montazeri (Fabian Johnson, Djamel Mesbah)
Eden Hazard, Angel Di Maria (Nabil Bentaleb, Alan Dzagoev)
Gonzalo Higuain, Edin Dzeko (Aleksandr Kokorin)
Hopefully having that many players available to bring in points will lead to me having a better score than round 1, but only time will tell. How are you doing so far? Who do you still have left to play?
