Week One: The Gut Picks

We all know them, the players who despite all logic saying no or because of your own logic screaming yes, become your gut feeling picks of the week. Who are yours for the opening weekend?

Certainly one of the stars that will shine this season, but the big question is when?

Steve Bardens

Less than a week to go ladies and gentlemen, so just the few hundred team changes left before your team kicks off then!

Later in the week we will give you the usual player picks etc but for this post I wonder, who is your gut pick for week one?  Who is the player under everybody's radar or has just overwhelmed any common sense within your mind?

Perhaps your feelings for "siggy" has made you believe he is sure to score at Old Trafford.  Maybe it's the feeling there's value to be had in thinking Ashley Youngs preseason form wasn't just to stop him getting sold.  Or, could it be with the return of corners won you can see Stewart Downing bombing down towards the corner flag winning corners galore, then curling the corners themselves into the 6 yard box for a SC and assist?

Who is your gut pick?  Remember this is not the place to choose any of the commons picks.  Therefore based on the draft teams people have posted so far, none of these will count as a gut pick for week one;

Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterling, Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard, Aaron Ramsey, Alexis Sanchez, Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata, Erik Lamela or even Calum Chambers.

As you will know with me I often have a gut pick or two in my sides.  Hopefully there is always a logic to them.  They often change on team news, key pieces of information or early team news in the 12.45 kick off.  Currently I have a list of players that have the gut feeling.  For the moment I will give you a pair fighting for my affections and the third forward position on my draft side.

Charlie Austin - 6.5m

It is hard to get excited about the Queens Park Rangers v Hull City opening day game if you don't support either club.  If you play fantasy football as we do, there is always an interest.

Austin was Rangers top scorer last season and is a consistent Championship goalscorer.  He scored twice in the playoff second leg to turn the tie around and has been scoring in preseason.  He enters my consideration because of the following:

He is a safe starter.

He plays at home.

He is a proven Championship goal scorer and Hull while having a decent season last time out, are pretty much a top of the championship level team.

He is the clubs penalty taker.

Austin is one of those picks that makes sense to me.  Truth is, he doesn't hold a spot in my current draft team.  That spot currently belongs to the more glamorous

Bojan Krkic 6m

The, still young man has also scored in preseason.  He isn't a penalty taker, he is playing his very first season in the Premier League and at a new club.  He isn't a forward, instead playing in one of the three support roles to Peter Crouch.  So why does my gut like him?

He is playing Aston Villa

He is cheap at 6M

He is playing Aston Villa

He is a fantastic talent and has a point to prove.

He is playing Aston Villa.

He is playing in a progressive upward motion Stoke team who are playing Aston Villa.

Who should I go with if I go with either?

Post your thoughts below on your guts picks for the coming week one (remember Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterling, Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard, Aaron Ramsey, Alexis Sanchez, Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata, Erik Lamela or even Calum Chambers do not count).
Let us give you our views on the madness in your mind.  It won't be pretty but it should be fun.
Why do I think Ken and Yewtee will excel in this post?
