Week 6: Player Picks

A quick look at the key picks for week 6.

Goal, brace, trick or red card. Costa gets something for you this week and you all have him right?

Clive Rose

So on to week 6 and it's player picks time.  I have been picking around the correct picks through the first 5 weeks so I will caution you with this week selection.

With Chelsea, Manchester United (in theory), Southampton and perhaps Manchester City having the plumb ties of the week lets start with their selections.

Thibaut Courtois

Hosting an Aston Villa side finally beaten you should expect the win and likely clean sheet.  Currently my pick my I'm aware this has the one shot one goal possibility against him.  Villa had, I believe the fewest efforts on goal in the league coming into last weekend and have been a consistent better team away from home.

Fraser Forster

Queens Park Rangers have played two aways losing both 4-0.  The saints are as in form as you can be and this looks the banker of the weekend.  Silly little stats like Southampton have yet to concede at home always bug me.  Secondly picking the majority of the side for the midweek League cup tie (a famous come from behind win at Arsenal) may leave them overlooking "arry's boys".  Still you think he has more saves to make than Courtois.

John Terry

Club captain JT make be a slight rest risk here with the Champions League away midweek then the big clash with Arsenal next weekend this looks the perhap best one to rest him.  Knowing Terry he won't want that and therefore hence the slight comment.

Branislav Ivanovic

Currently the form fullback in the league this fixture should see him bombing down the wings and possibly go big.  The only concern links the chance of JT's rest.  If he does then Ivan moves to CB and the points potential lessons.

Ryan Bertrand

I missed out on the cheap price based on what I saw of him at Aston Villa.  At St Marys he is the attacking full back we saw at times with Chelsea.  A certain pick for any who have him at original price and a great option at his current 7.42

Vincent Kompany

To set you apart a little Kompany priced at 9.43 won't be selected by many but looks back to form alongside a fellow man mountain in his new partner.  Hull won't be easy but I fancy the City clean sheet, he will pick up plenty of blocks etc and a goal is due.

Luke Shaw

A real gamble here.  LVG seems the only one so far with doubts on the youngsters potential selecting Rojo at LB against Leicester.  With the mess that is the Utd defence LVG has no choice but to pick him this week (unless he thinks he can give Michael Carrick his season debut at CB, cringe).  Shaw is a talent and hopefully give the chance a natural fullback can help with one element of the lack of balance.  Expensive but has big point potential.

Cesc Fabregas

Easy choice. Boring choice. In my team, in everybodies team.

Eden Hazard

Starting to find his form and someone else has to score other than Costa right?  Won't be in many teams but should have penalties and that may be just the way Chelsea get a breakthrough against stubborn Villa.

Dusan Tadic

Still to find a Premier League goal but consistent.  Great fixture and close to a must have this week.

Sadio Mane

Should you like to look a little different in Mane we have a potential fantasy star.  After making his debut and with the long term injury to JWP he seems likely to start.  Most will just give him a watching brief so this could be the time to get in before the rest.

Angel Di Maria

Back to back 20+ games and the clear star of the side so far.  He has no reputation for scoring like Ronaldo and his two goals were one piece of luck and one piece of brilliance, so maybe this week he blanks.  With the SC, FW and assists etc he will rack up 10ish points without one.

Ander Herrera

Getting forward more than Di Maria he is such a talent.  As soon as he passes he moves and creates an angle for a return pass transforming utds attacking fluidity.  Also no rep as a goal machine but also may offer you phantoms every game.

Diego Costa

The leagues top scorer at home to a team they normally beat.  Should be a must pick but offers you few points if he doesn't score.  A brace then a hat trick in his two homes so far suggests you are brave to go against him.

Sergio Aguero

Rested midweek and City must win this one having failed to stop Chelsea last week.  He must start but may not give you 90mins.  I think he scores this week but there are easier picks for less money.

Radamel Falcao

Just the assist and a hit crossbar on debut but enough to suggest his clever movement and top technique will see him in the goals soon.  When he does I get the idea he starts with a brace.  Of the 3 Utd forwards he will be the one having the early bath denting his value but he is so well priced.

Robin Van Persie

Back in the goals last week but still looked a little off the pace.  On penalties and he and Falcao are fighting over the same space.  Priced so well as well.

Wayne Rooney

Now playing in midfield?  West Ham will sit deep so he may find himself with more space than his attacking teammates.  Will be in few teams so a great differential pick.

Graziano Pelle

Great fixture, in form and figurehead attacker against the league worst travelling team.  Great price and very hard no to select.

And the best of the rest

Gylfi Sigurdsson

Siggy is starting to loses a few players faith but not mine.  Swansea;s key player will be tightly marked but Sunderland have looked less defensively sound so far this season. Sunderland may well beat the Swans but Siggy gets you points regardless of results.  Keep the faith.

Raheem Sterling

Liverpools form horse must play in the derby.  Everton's defense has been horrific so far and Sterling pace is a nightmare they will wish they didn't have to face.  Maybe players with easier fixtures but I have him for now,

Martin Kelly

Back in the first team and at home in a nice fixture.  Many will like Leicester in this one but you often see teams fail after a sensational result.

Jason Puncheon

Again if you are working the the idea Leicester's standards drop slightly Puncheon is due one of his 20+ games soon.

Alex Sanchez

Settled in very well at Arsenal and certain to start the derby.  On free kicks and maybe pens if you have him a 5ish and no brainer against a spurs team starting worse than last season.

Mesut Ozil

Wenger kept the faith on Ozil back in his true position came back to form.  Known as a streaky player he could continue this week

Aaron Ramsey

Like Siggy seeing the faith lower.  Should he stay in the deeper role I'm not sure I like him as a pick,  However if it is a tight game he is the most likely match winner.

Danny Welbeck

The Lord looked good a Villa and Spurs defence looks anything but good.  At Utd he scored in bunches.  A derby game is normally one to avoid but this fixture has been full of goals.  I'm sure Danny will get two or three great chances its just which side of the bed Danny gets out of regarding his finishing.

Joleon Lescott

Massive impact in the WBA backline.  Burnley are the most toothless team in the league and Lescott has been known to score the odd goal.

James Morrison

WBA match winner at Spurs will keep his place and after 3 clean sheets in a row someone scores for WBA this week.

Saido Berahino

So if someone does score past Heaton how about bright young thing Berahino.  His pace will cause problems and he is very well priced.

Stewart Downing

Here is a controversial opinion.  I thought Downing was more effective at the point of the Hammers diamond than Rooney was is the same role at Leicester.  I will BD for sure and almost certainly I won't pick him this week but he is the best form for a few years.

Enner Valencia

Man Utd's defence is shocking.  Valencia looks a real handful.  Nobody will pick him but I fancy West Ham for at least one goal.  On direct free kicks.

Ryan Shawcross or Phil Bardsley

Facing a Newcastle side falling apart.  I like a clean sheet and these two can always serve up a goal.

Victor Moses

Phantom machine will get chances to add a goal or two on Monday night.  Perfect value pick.

Peter Crouch

Caused QPR all sorts of problems and facing a Newcastle side who seem keen last season and this to give up goals in 3's and 4's.  With all the attacking options open to us he will not be in many teams
