Liverpool are this summer's transfer pace setter. After picking up James Milner on a free last week they have added Danny Ings on free transfer (with compensation to be agreed) this week .
Ings, 22 will join Liverpool subject to a medical on 1 July. The England under 21 has been rumoured as a red target since late in the 2014/15 season. We don't yet know what the level of compensation Liverpool will need to pay. With Tottenham having a reported bid of £12m a couple of weeks ago the figure may be higher than Liverpool at first would have wished.
For Burnley, Ings scored 11 goals in 35 league games, a strike rate that Liverpool will hope will improve as the supply of chances increases. When we discussed the Christian Benteke to pool rumours, many of us felt Tekkers lacked the mobility to play in Liverpool's system of play. Ings certainly is an upgrade with that attribute.
Like Milner, Ings offers a very good value financial deal. Also like Milner I'm not sure Liverpool are currently buying the players that will fire them back into the Champions League. Would you for example consider him a better option than very similar in style and similar aged Fabio Borini?
On paper he may not be an improvement to the starting 11. However, it is also possible Ings is a player where we have yet to see his ceiling. Time will tell.
How do you see the latest pool transfer?
