Zlatan Ibrahimovic was suspended, so at least he had an excuse for doing nothing by not playing. Here’s a list of fantasy stars who did appear but failed to notch a goal, assist or clean sheet yesterday: Joe Allen, Sergio Aguero, Dele Alli, Marko Arnautovic, Charlie Austin, Andre Ayew, Leighton Baines, Ross Barkley, Christian Benteke, Claudio Bravo, Yohan Cabaye, Petr Cech, Philippe Coutinho, Kevin De Bruyne, David De Gea, Christian Eriksen, Roberto Firmino, Christian Fuchs, Laurent Koscielny, Hugo Lloris, Romelu Lukaku, Sadio Mane, Anthony Martial, James Milner, Mesut Ozil, Paul Pogba, Wayne Rooney, Danny Rose, Xherdan Shaqiri, David Silva, Alexis Sanchez, Robert Snodgrass, Jamie Vardy, Theo Walcott, Kyle Walker, Ashley Williams and Callum Wilson. (Phew!)

Other than Michail Antonio, Seamus Coleman, Jermain Defoe, Harry Kane, Juan Mata, Riyad Mahrez and Gylffi Sigurdsson, the action came from more unexpected sources. Goals were scored by Nathan Ake, Victor Anichebe (a brace!), Etienne Capoue, Olivier Giroud, Manuel Lanzini, Roberto Pereyra, Yaya Toure, Connor Wickham and Harry Winks (his first ever). On the defensive end, Sunderland notched its first clean sheet of the season, Bournemouth nabbed its first away shutout (aided by Bojan Krkic’s missed penalty kick) and expected goal fest Liverpool v. Southampton played to a nil-nil draw.

It looks like Diego Costa, Thibaut Courtois, Eden Hazard, David Luiz and company will need to rack up the points on Sunday in order to salvage this game week, fantasy-wise. Or will the theme continue with lesser-owned players delivering instead and/or with Middlesbrough shutting down the Blues, giving Monday’s West Brom v. Burnley tilt a measure of importance?

Let’s get chatting!
