Fantasy Premier League Player of the Week: Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier

A match-winning goal and clean sheet were the major factors in the former fantasy favorite's massive points haul this week.

Each season there are a few players who emerge from the newly promoted sides to become fantasy powerhouses in the Premier League. This season we've got players like Odion Ighalo from Watford FC, Robbie Brady from Norwich City and Charlie Daniels from AFC Bournemouth, but last year the standout was Burnley's marauding right back Kieran Trippier.

The fantastic performances Trippier put in last season attracted a lot of attention and an eventual move to Tottenham Hotspur, where he until recently sat on the bench behind Kyle Walker. Like so many promising players and fantasy starlets (hello, Scott Sinclair!), a move to a bigger club seemed to be detrimental to his career.

However, Mauricio Pochettino has been forced to rotate his squad over the past couple months with the fixtures coming thick and fast, and Trippier has gotten his chances to stake a claim on the starting berth. He made the most of that chance this weekend against Watford, with a trademark all-action display that included a clean sheet, a well-taken goal and nearly an assist leading the way to 15 points in the official FPL game, 30 in Fantrax and 36.25 in Perfect XI.

Here are the highlights from Spurs' 1-0 victory:

With Trippier's bargain price and the fantasy potential we know he has, fantasy managers everywhere are on high alert to see whether this performance will be enough to displace Kyle Walker as the starter for Premier League matches going forward. Based on his fantasy haul this week, we'll have to hope so.
