Avoid all that is new?
I think the weekend saw signs of both Manchester clubs having a way to go in the transition under new management. United still looked flat and slow in attacking areas albeit against a strong Foxes defence in the Community Shield. The Red Devils have an excellent potential opening three games Bournemouth, Southampton and Hull. You would expect them to score in all three on paper. Its trust what I saw with my own eye's against the attractiveness of the fixtures.
As for City they has a squad who have come back at different points this summer. Pep has extremely clear views on player position and tactics that are very specific in their approach. It is inevitable that this will take time for the players to adjust to and we may not see the attacking side we expect early in the season. Having said that they do still have the league's best player in Kun but it's who plays off him that has me unsure. City also have Champions League qualification in-between game week 1 and 2. Kun could face reduced playing time, as could any City player.
We may be wise not to over invest too heavy in either Manchester club while starting 11's settle and the team learn the requirements of the new managers.
FPL - my squad as it stands
Valencia, Evans, Azpilicueta, Friend, Shaw
Firminho, Hazard, Townsend, Capone, Redmond
Gray, Vardy, Kun
Zlatan has made way for now but I don't like having no Manchester United attacking cover for the opening three games despite them looking like a work in progress.
Vardy is in for now with Hull City looking short of players and quality. He could be swapped to Harry Kane in week 2 when Leicester City host Arsenal. Talking of Arsenal I wanted assist machine Mesut Ozil but with him missing the opening game week and perhaps longer I am leaving alone. Maybe I will take Vardy out and look to Riyad Mahrez for Foxes attacking cover.
Fantrax fantasy football my squad as it stands
Clichy, Shaw, Kingsley
Hazard, Townsend, Routledge, Redmond
Gray, Zlatan, Kun
Zlatan at a price of 12m is hard to ignore. He did very little in the Wembley showdown yesterday and could be one of those player not racking up the Fanatrax points without goals and assists. It's just throughout his career and in whatever league he has played he has provided consistent goals and assists frequently.
Routledge is in for price as is Kingsley who may not even start.
Jurgen Klopps Liverpool will give a few sides a hammering this season and while they may not do so against Arsenal they will create chances. I'd have preferred Firminho but he is too much money. Divock Origi could offer a way in to earn a start at Arsenal but I think he may start from the bench.
For Arsenal having no first choice central defenders is a big problem against a Klopp team, but it may also focus their minds to the challenge. Predicting the Gunners starting 11 is tough but Alexis Sanchez is certain to start. Alex Iwobi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are both priced great. Even Theo Walcott is a nice price. He is in form, I'm just not sure that he starts. I want someone from that game but cannot settle on a player yet.
Townsend is a machine at fantasy football and faces a side that gives the ball away. He is expensive but potentially explosive.
I really want to take on Hull City in gameweek 1. Jamie Vardy is expensive if he doesn't score and with Kun taking up so much of my money hard to fit in. Riyad Mahrez production slowed as the season progressed when teams figured him out but he was still a constant danger. I can't see Hull holding him at all and the player of the season could have fun on match day one. Once again at 21m and holding Kun he looks a move I cannot make.
Finally I want to make a comment for Demarai Gray. I liked his impact in games from the bench last season. Pre-season he played well and he may have taken a starting spot for the Hull City game after Mark Albrighton got his reward by starting in the Community Shield. He is under 2m and had he been classed as midfield player I would certainly gambled on him. As a forward I'm unlikely to take a chance but if he does start I think you are looking at a 7-8 point game minimum.
As I said I don't like the side above and I expect it will change completely.
Lots to chat about.
