Egyptian national and Italian league import Mohamed Salah has enjoyed a sensational inaugural season at Liverpool, and his best performance may just have been the most recent. Saturday’s beautiful victory over West Ham United was made decisive thanks to Salah’s magisterial brace, which was all the more important given the injury absence of Brazilian talisman Philippe Coutinho.
Two goals from three shots on target, along with one corner won and one successful cross, translated fantastically to:
- 15 points in Official FPL fantasy (including the three bonus points)
- 25 points in Fantrax
- 31 points in Togga
Salah’s first goal came via a devastating wham-bam, coast-to-coast counterattack following a West Ham corner. From an assist by the marauding Sadio Mane, Salah’s calm, composed left-footed finish just outside the six-yard box left arrgh Joe Hart arrgh helpless. Salah later bookended the scoring with a blistering lefty strike from inside the penalty box, again fed by Mane.
Take a look at the video:
Chelsea infamously let Kevin De Bruyne go to the Bundesliga’s VfL Wolfsburg before he returned to haunt the Blues as a Manchester Citizen. Is this repeating with Salah, whom Chelsea sold to AS Roma of Serie A before Liverpool pounced? Now Salah has amassed seven goals and two assists (three in the more giving Official format) across his first 11 League games with Liverpool. He has also contributed four scores plus an assist in a quartet of UEFA Champions League group stage matches.
Honorable mention for the fantasy Premier League weekend goes to Stoke’s Swiss midfield maestro Xherdhan Shaquiri, who nabbed a goal and an assist in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Leicester, as well as Everton defender Leighton Baines who did likewise in the Toffees’ thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over Watford. In Togga, Bournemouth defender Simon Francis actually nipped Salah for the points lead (31.75) and Man City middie Kevin De Bruyne finished third (30).
