I really do look forward to European Football midweek games!

Despite the fact that I’m an avid Chelsea fan (meaning that I have to wait until Thursday to see my team play), the Champions League brings something different to the table for football fans.

The buzz of anticipation, the passion and excitement of traveling fans and the classic encounters between European heavyweights never fail to disappointment.

In the first round of matches, we witnessed a truly memorable display of attacking football between Liverpool and PSG that kept us on the edges of our seats. I’m looking for more of the same this week, and the fixture I’ve got my eye on is Tottenham Hotspur vs Barcelona.

I watched the Inter Milan vs Tottenham game, and it was a weird one. Spurs played all over their Italian opponents and could have been well clear until a Mauro Icardi stunner leveled the match. Spurs were then undone by a late winner that saw them leave Italy empty handed.

In a harrowing Group B, that loss represents a heavy blow because their next match is against the favorites to advance — Barcelona.

Luckily for Spurs, Barca seem to be in a poor run of form, having followed up a loss to lowly Leganes with a draw against Athletic Bilbao in La Liga. Spurs have shown that when on form, they have what it takes to hurt any team in world football, and Harry Kane will be primed to show his worth in what will be a monumental fixture. One Mr. Lionel Messi may have different ideas however.

I’ll definitely be taking a late lunch at the nearest bar to witness to what could be one for the history books.
