The third round of the UEFA Champions League Group Phase gets underway, and there are some lovely match-ups on the schedule.

The Champions League is back, and we are now at the halfway point of the Group Phase.

Teams will play each other twice (home and away) over the next two match-days as the fixtures turn around. For fantasy leaguer managers, we’ve discussed the impact of this in our UCL Matchday 3 Fantasy Player Picks article.

For a number of teams, this round of matches provides an opportunity to establish a foothold in their respective groups. For other teams in more precarious positions, anything but a win could sound a death knell for their UCL campaigns.

Undoubtedly, the the biggest story of this round is Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford, the stage where he made his name. Manchester United hosts Juventus in what should be a scintillating match, and I’ll be tuning in to see if Ronaldo (back from suspension) can write the envisioned headlines.

Elsewhere, there are a few match-ups that I think could potentially be classics. I’m excited to see how Borussia Dortmund’s relentless young hotshots measure up against an experienced and battle-hardened Atletico Madrid unit. Barcelona, who have lost Messi to an arm injury, tackle an impressive and in-form Inter Milan team. Finally, PSG and Napoli will do battle in what should be an open and entertaining affair.

Football.... Lovely football!!
