Champions League Match Day 3: Rate My Team

Match day 3 is here. Which means it’s my 3rd week of playing! How am I doing?

I am new to Champions League fantasy, and I have to admit that it has been a bit overwhelming. So many teams, so many lineup changes. Add to that the challenges of checking and adjusting lineups midweek during the workday (I do have an actual job), and I feel like I’m scrambling to keep the team going.

I had a tough match day 1 (54 points), and a little better match day 2 (65 points). So all in all I don’t think I’ve been a total disaster, but that’s debatable. And while we are here, let’s go ahead and debate it! Below is my plan for this week — please let me know what you think.

Rate My Team: Matchday 3

My key transfer this week was to bring in Ciro Immobile upfront. I brought in Tete as well.

Goalkeeper:

I have Andre Onana in for now, but I honestly think I’m going to go back to Roman Burki. Both have decent match-ups. This is one of those times, where I’m just not sure I picked up the right keeper on day 1, and I’m not using a transfer on one now. I feel both are solid choices, and at least one will move on to the next round.

Defense:

I’m pretty happy here. Last week saw a goal and two clean sheets, plus a bunch of points for “balls recovered”. I don’t see much changing here for a while, and I’m going to need them to bring in points.

Midfield:

This is where I’m struggling. I brought in Tete this week, which while writing this seems like a panic buy, but maybe not. He has been putting up points. The other three just don’t excite me, if they even play. I’m just not sure what to do here moving forward, as I don’t have a ton of extra budget (or research time) to throw at the problem.

Forwards:

I have mixed feelings here. Erling Haaland will be in my squad and be my captain for most of the season. He just scores goals. He is two for two so far, and he has a good match up this week too. Ousmane Dembele has two goals and an assist on the season but also has played only 93 minutes total. The lack of consistent playing time makes him a gamble, but one that has been working thus far. Immobile has the potential for big games too, and I’m trusting (fingers crossed) that he gets back into the lineup after missing match day 2.

Subs:

I just needed fillers in my initial team. These 3 have been playing at least. Not much more to say about the strategy there.

So there it is! Please help this newbie! Is there anything positive I can take from this team? Is it as bad as I think it is? What key strategies am I missing in this format as I move forward?
