EPL GW 1: How Did You Do?

Did you benefit from the 7-goal thriller at Anfield? Or were you left licking your wounds after an eventful game-week?

We’ve now made it through the first game-week of the season, with 16 teams having featured. Mo Salah stole the headlines with a hat-trick in ‘Pool’s 4-3 win against a Leeds side that impressed, but who can consider themselves unlucky to come away without a point. After much anticipation, the EPL is now back, with an eventful first week, giving us Fantasy Managers our first insight of what’s to come.

The Official FPL Game

Mo Salah was the standout choice this game-week after his hat-trick against Leeds. Frustratingly, I didn’t heed my own advice (and even my hint at Triple Captain in the player picks article), changing my captain to Aubameyang. Lesson: Always go with your gut!

Calum Wilson stepped up for me on his debut for the Magpies, with Timo Werner also impressing, possibly giving us insight into things to come. James Justin proved his value at £4.5Mil in the absence of Ricardo Pereira. The highly owned trio of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Son Heung-Min frustrated many owners, providing derisory returns. However, the season is a marathon and not a sprint. The £4.0Mil Tyrick Mitchell proved his worth but was left on the bench.

My results for Game-week 1:

As you can see, I earned a respectable 67 points, higher than the 50 average, but it could have been so much better had Mo Salah been kept as captain. I am sitting 1391st in the “Never Manage Alone BTB” and 1,055,000 overall in FPL. 20 teams impressively broke the 100 point barrier in the NMA league, with JFC400 top of the standings with 111 points (no chip used!), while Menthem Wedus and Irfans Club followed closely behind in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Fantrax NMA-11

This is my maiden Fantrax season, having been focused on Official FPL historically. In the NMA-11 league, my total points this week (Real Ale Madrid) was 93.5, currently sitting in 55th, 36 points behind the league leaders, Sparta FC & Team Baziu who are on 129.5 points. Tolaria is close behind with 128. I opted for Liverpool’s other premium attacker, Sadio Mane, instead of Mo Salah.

Fantrax NMA-17

My choices in the NMA-17 league were slightly better, having selected Mo Salah. I earned 111, which put me in 39th place. There is a fair way to the top with the league leader Team minhtruong on an impressive 168 points. Jay Spearing Reborn is only 3 points behind that with 165. Smoke & Mirrors sits 3rd with 155.
