GW-1 certainly didn’t disappoint (unless you bet on Arsenal FC against relegation-favorites Brentford)! We were treated to some big score-lines, upsets, hattricks, derbies. The Premier League is well and truly back!
We now look forward to GW-2, where exactly half the teams are looking to register some points on the board, whilst the other half are looking to pick up where they left off last weekend. There are plenty of early bandwagons, with fantasy heroes Bruno and Mo scoring high, plus plenty of 1st-recalc Fantrax super-bargains to be had.
Here my picks for GW-2:
Goalkeepers
David de Gea (SOU vs MAN, $8.12) With Dean Henderson struggling to make his return, the Spaniard looks set to continue in goal for Man United this game-week, another chance to stake his claim as the permanent #1. DDG may not have kept a clean-sheet last time out, but he’ll have another good chance against a Southampton side adjusting to life without Danny Ings. DDG offers good value for money in Fantrax currently.
~
Ederson (MCI vs NOR, $10.16) A premium keeper who failed to keep a clean-sheet in a tough fixture against Tottenham. Ederson is the best backer for a clean-sheet this week as Man City hosts newcomers Norwich. Man City will dominate the game and look to keep out Teemu Pukki this time around.
Defenders
Konstantinos Tsimikas (LIV vs BUR, $4.00) Tsimikas continues to offer superb value as he’ll continue in place of the absent Andrew Robertson. Tsimikas had a strong performance against Norwich, carrying the ball well and supplying dangerous balls into the box. Liverpool has a favourable fixture, so Tsimikas has the potential to register points at both ends of the pitch.
~
Stuart Dallas (LEE vs EVE, $12.11) One of Last season’s fantasy football favorites. Stuart Dallas continues to prove his versatility and consistency. Playing in midfield, Dallas picked up an assist against Man United and always offers potential attacking returns, but if he ever gets a CS, it probably won’t be worth as much as a true defender.
~
Sergio Reguilon (WOL vs TOT, $8.50) Spurs eventually saw out Man City so will go into the game against Santo’s former club full of confidence. Reguilon should be afforded more attacking opportunity in this one, and he will have a good chance of registering another clean-sheet too.
Midfielders
Paul Pogba (SOU vs MAN, $10.42) Naturally Bruno Fernandes picked up most of the plaudits with a stunning hattrick in a thrilling 5-1 win over Leeds last time out. Fernandes was always going to get a mention, but he is priced super-high at over $25, so it may be wise to invest in the much more affordable Pogba (who was even more affordable if you grabbed him before the recalc!). Pogba also turned heads in the game, notching a whopping four assists. He looks to be at his best in a free-scoring side making a big statement already.
~
Kevin De Bruyne (MCI vs NOR, $11.59) De Bruyne managed only a cameo appearance in the defeat to Spurs due to his recent injury, but he should be set to start in what looks like a great fixture against Norwich. We all know what he can do, and Pep will want to post his first win on the board. De Bruyne should be pulling the strings in this one, so he could well be in for a big haul, offering great value for money also.
~
Joseph Willock (AST vs NEW, $4.66) Newcastle finally has its man! He is already a record-breaker for the club, having been the youngest player to score in seven consecutive games! Aston Villa showed vulnerability at the back last time out, so Willock will look to pick up where he left off after a successful loan spell. He could be in for a great season, so expect his price to rise.
~
Raphinha (LEE vs EVE, $12.65) Raphinha frustrated his owners last time out, missing a glorious chance late on. Granted, it would’ve been just a consolation, but points are points. Raphinha should get further chances against Everton, which could be a very open game. This isn’t great for Leeds’ defense which is always liable to concede, but it’s good for the attacking assets. Raphinha proved what he can do last season, so he should get off the mark this time round.
Forwards
Mo Salah (LIV vs BUR, $18.35) - He’s the first name on the team-sheet. The fantasy legend that is Mo Salah did not disappoint in GW-1. Salah his now the only player in EPL history to score on the opening day in five consecutive seasons. Salah has a great run of fixtures to look forward to, including Burnley who didn’t get off to a great start.
~
Ismaila Sarr (BRI vs WAT, $9.51) It has been a couple of seasons since we’ve seen Sarr in the Premier League, however he soon reminded us of the damage he can do. He’s now on the radar of Liverpool. Sarr was rewarded with a goal in GW-1 and has an appealing fixture this week. Sarr’s stock and ownership is currently low, so get in quickly!
~
Richarlison (LEE vs EVE, $14.55) A goal and an assist certainly doesn’t go unnoticed, so Richarlison makes this week’s selection. Everton is under new management, Rafa Benitez singing Richarlison’s praises after his first game. Next up is a Leeds side that conceded five last time out.
What do you think of my picks for this week? How are you reacting to a busy GW-1? Are you jumping on any early bandwagons? Let us know your thoughts!
