MD-6 Build-Up

We have one last European tournaments week in 2023 before they take a long break until the middle of February 2024. Four spots are yet to be filled as ten clubs battle for another day in UCL.

If you missed our detailed previews of each of the tournament’s groups, they can be found in NMA’s UEFA Champions League Group Stage Previews Stream. The player picks article for MD-6 was posted yesterday, but make sure your picks are not in the injury tables below. If you want to know the qualification chances for the remaining contenders, here is NMA’a UCL MD-6 Preview article. Also be sure to check out PPQ’s Rate My Team piece, and, well, rate his team!

While making your final group-round transfers, keep in mind the early kickoff times on Tuesday and Wednesday. The two early matches are scheduled at 17:45 GMT on Tuesday (Lens hosts Sevilla and PSV hosts Arsenal). We will see confirmed lineups for those matches an hour or two before the transfer deadline; be sure to be here in the countdown hour for that.

Similarly, the substitution (and captain-twist) window closes at the kickoff of the two early matches on Wednesday (RB Leipzig vs Young Boys and Crvena zvezda (Belgrade) vs Man City). Again, we will have those confirmed lineups for you here — Don’t miss them!

Comparing how each country is faring in UCL is one of the factors that sports fans may enjoy, so here are the R-16 prospects sorted by nation:

  • Spain: 4 teams (Real Madrid, Barcelona, Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid) qualified to the round of 16 while Sevilla is confirmed out.
  • Germany: 3 teams (Bayern, Dortmund and RB Leipzig) are through to the knockout stages while Union Berlin bowed out.
  • Italy: 2 teams (Inter and Lazio) made it so far; Napoli and Milan must deliver in MD-6 to qualify.
  • England: 2 teams (Arsenal and Man City) won their groups while Newcastle and Man United face tough must-win matches in MD-6
  • Netherlands: 1 team (PSV) made it to the next round, but Feyenoord crashed out in MD-5.
  • Portugal: Benfica is the opposite last season, and bowing out in MD-5, but Braga and Porto remain in contention.
  • France: Lens is out while PSG retains a strong chance to qualify from the group of death.
  • Turkey (Galatasaray), Denmark (Copenhagen), and Ukraine (Shakhtar Donetsk) make up the remaining 3 of 10 contenders for the remaining 4 spots.

For now, below is a list of injured and suspended players to help you avoid choosing no-shows for your team.
