Manchester City is away at the Club World Cup, so City’s match against Brentford has been postponed. However, Liverpool & Arsenal provide us a table-top clash of titans at Anfield to keep us entertained!
A reminder to all fantasy managers: GW-18 kicks off on Thursday, a rare slot for the beginning of a game week — Christmas must be upon us!
Martin Dubravka ( £4.20, Luton Town vs Newcastle )
Nick Pope’s injury will see him sidelined until mid-April, so Dubravka is the starting goalkeeper (unless Newcastle buys a top-drawer keeper in the January transfer window). With the returns of Botman and Burn in defense, Newcastle finally have their first-choice defensive lineup back, increasing the chances of keeping clean sheets, so Dubravka is a viable long-term buy in goal.
Emiliano Martinez ( £5.10, Villa vs Sheffield United )
Martinez is a solid pick for any game at Villa Park! Going up against an opponent with the lowest scoring record in the league (a paltry 12 goals), Martinez is expected to keep a clean sheet.
Pedro Porro is reaping the rewards of his manager’s creative tactics, allowing fullbacks to overlap even beyond the striker. In addition to his sturdy defensive skills, he has also provided six assists in the league.
Tosin Adarabioyo ( £4.30, Fulham vs Burnley )
Burnley appears to struggle when defending against high balls, as evidenced by their previous game against Everton in which they conceded from two high balls. In-form Fulham at home has an opportunity to secure a clean sheet against Burnley, and there is optimism that Adarabioyo may capitalize on a chance in front of goal from a set piece.
Dan Burn ( £4.40, Luton Town vs Newcastle )
Dan Burn has made a triumphant return after being absent for five games, making an immediate impact by scoring a goal and hauling in 14 points in FPL last game-week. The favorable fixture is another compelling reason for his inclusion.
Willian ( £5.30, Fulham vs Burnley )
Willian was rested last time out but is expected to start this week due to the suspension of attacker Raul Jimenez. In addition to the favorable fixture, Willian serves as a set-piece specialist for the team.
Salah has been without goals in his recent two home games, which is surprising considering his impressive scoring record of eight goals in eight home games. However, he has the opportunity to change this trend this week, facing the attack-oriented fullback Zinchenko.
Anthony Gordon ( £6.20, Luton Town vs Newcastle )
Gordon is currently the highest points-scoring player for Newcastle in FPL. Given Luton Town’s incomplete defensive line, this presents an opportunity for Gordon to further extend his impressive record.
Ollie Watkins ( £8.60, Aston Villa vs Sheffield United )
Despite some Sheffield United players returning from injury, it might not be enough for them to survive Villa Park. Sheffield has conceded a league-worst 43 goals against, so it’ll be a challenging task to stop Watkins this week.
Dominic Solanke ( £6.80, Nott’m Forest vs Bournemouth )
Solanke’s performance has improved since the return of his fellow teammates, and he has now scored nine, second-highest among EPL forwards this season. Forest has had trouble keeping clean sheets in recent games, providing a good opportunity for Solanke to showcase his scoring ability.
